HLC makes use of a special resource centre called Elina, which provides high functioning children with the opportunities for leading independent lives after their schooling years. Elina offers services in special education, occupational therapy, physical fitness and speech and communications for children with special needs, allowing them to attain their full potential. Through cross-cutting curriculum and events, HLC has extended the benefits of inclusion to mainstream children, through which it creates an attitude of acceptance and care amongst its children for the students of Elina.

HLC has been advocating its vision of empathy-led inclusion at multiple levels. Within the school, they insist and work with all their vendors and partners so that they can become inclusive themselves. The school’s influence on the parent community has been outstanding, with the Parent Volunteering Program allowing parents to get involved not only with events and fundraising activities in the school, but also in active teaching, guiding and mentoring for all children. With almost 50% of the staff drawing from the parent community, HLC has succesfully demonstrated the belief they have been able to build in allied school communities.
