Galway Educate Together National School (GETNS) was set up in 1994, as Galway School Project, by a small group of parents who wished to establish a school run on the core principles of the Educate Together network. GETNS aims to meet a growing need in Irish society for schools that recognise the developing diversity of Irish life and the modern need for democratic management in schools. A strong emphasis on inclusive and holistic education is evidenced through programmes such as an Autism Unit, the (Ashoka Fellow organisation) Playworks, as well as a Mental Well-Being initiative. GETNS is an influential school that is comfortable being showcased and ready to co-create and share methodologies.

Changemaking Initiatives:

  • ‘Life Skills for Young People’ - a 12 week pilot programme aiming to inspire students to be resilient, creative and mindful young people.
  • Students are encouraged to be filmmakers - they prepare the project from start to finish: Scripting, editing and filming as a team and the premiering the final production at the graduation.
