Colegio O Pelouro is ‘a classic’ among the innovative and emotional education in Spain. More than 20% of their students are children with disabilities and they see this as an opportunity to develop empathy. Children are at the centre of this school in every detail and really ‘take over’ the school. They focus on the skills needed to be an active and conscious person. They are always connecting with others in a world that needs constant participation to be a better place.
- Official Center of Innovation and Educative Experimentation: The school is considered as the pioneer school of integration effort and they’ve won several prizes for educational programmes.
- There are no conventional classes and the curriculum is trans-disciplinary. There are more cooperative classes, dialogical groups, and increased attention to the student during the learning process.
- The Architectural ensemble (‘Europa Nostra’ prize) was created to favor cooperative education: you can see what is happening on the other side of the building, doors with very big spaces.
- Psycho-dance activity: They use music and dance as a tool for their social and emotional expression.
