De Fontein-Sint-Niklaas pupils are constantly encouraged to speak up for themselves and to take initiative. They fully participate in the school’s organization and the parents are kept aware of what is going on in the school twice a month through presentations set up by the children themselves. Thanks to mediation classes, circles of talks, and a friendly and welcoming environment, this school is a genuine living place where joy reigns and where each child is happy to go as they finally give meaning to their education. The focus of student well-being and student involvement is what makes this a unique school participating in a changemaker society.
- Mentoring: Older students are given a mentoring role to the younger children to learn how to read. They are also encouraged to volunteer during recess to help the younger children.
- Week Opening: Every two weeks, students present a news report to the school and parents regarding the current updates of the school as well as the plan for the next 2 weeks.
- Studio Afternoons: Every 2 weeks where students can pick activities that they are interested in (e.g. learning new games, drawing, knitting, drama, dancing, etc.).
